Falafel Recipe | Middle Eastern food

Falafel Recipe | Middle Eastern Fast Food | Hello everyone, as you know that I am from India and I have never visited any Middle Eastern country yet. So this recipe is new for me because I don’t know the exact taste. But yes, in India, we made pakora(fritters) with different types of lentils.

That’s why I can say that these falafel balls are also very similar to our Indian pakoras. And I love the taste of this chickpea pakora. So you can also give a try to these falafel balls. You can make them for snacks or for party starter.

Falafel is made with soaked chickpeas, onions, garlic, and a lot of green herbs(coriander)and some spices. Spices are also very easily available in everyone’s kitchen.

Usually, it is served with hummus or pita bread. But we Indians love Chutney so much. That is why I love to eat my falafel with green or red Chutney. So, let’s make these crispy and tasty falafel balls.

Snack Ideas

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 bowl chickpeas
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 5 to 7 garlic
  • 4 to 5 green chilies
  • 1 bunch of coriander leaves (handful)
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1 to 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 to 3 tbsp besan(gram flour)
  • oil for frying

How to make falafel balls?

First, you have to soak the chickpeas for 5 to 7 hours or overnight. Do not use canned chickpeas for this recipe. Then wash them well. Now, take a food processor and add some soaked chickpeas.

Add onions, garlic, and chilies. Add salt, cumin powder, and coriander. You can skip red chili powder if you do not want to add extra chilies. Then, grind them coarsely.

Now add lemon juice and besan. And mix it well. After that, you have to make some small – or medium-sized balls. But do not press them a lot. Just apply a little pressure and make a ball. Falafel balls are ready to fry.

Here, I used mustard oil; you can use any oil. Fry these balls on medium to high flame. When it turns golden in color, remove it. Make all of them like this.

Now, you can enjoy these falafel balls with chutney or with hummus. Here, I used naan and some salad tomato ketchup to make a falafel wrap. But you can also enjoy this with a burger bread or pav just like vada pav. Enjoy.
