Banoffee pie is a popular English dessert and the recipe of this pie is the simplest pie recipe ever. This is the traditional one, but what I’ll show you here, is not the traditional pie. This is inspired by banoffee pie’s recipe. This is my version of banoffee pie in a jar because I change some ingredients, and experiment with some new ingredients. Trust me, it is as good as the traditional one and very quick and simple. You do not need to cook the toffee which takes quite 5 to 6 hours. This looks very fancy and the perfect dessert jar for any type of celebration. And yes, Christmas is around the corner, and the countdown has begun. What is banoffee pie?
This is a popular English dessert that is a unique combination of different layers. The bottom layer is made with graham cracker crumbs and after that, it topped with some toffee, sliced bananas. And then the finishing touch is given by whipped cream and with some chocolate shavings. The texture of this dessert is soft, creamy, crunchy, gooey, and smooth. So this is the description of traditional banoffee pie.
My version of banoffee pie in a jar
In this recipe the layers are made with a chocolate brownie or cake crumb, the second layer is caramel custard. After that add some caramel sauce and some sliced bananas. Lastly, topped it with some whipped cream. Garnish it with some cake crumbs, banana slices, and drizzle some caramel sauce.
Ingredients and substitutes
Brownie: here, we use brownie crumb. You can make your own brownie or just buy a pack of brownies for this recipe. But if you like crunch then you can also add cookie crumb. Choice your favorite cookie and crush it and add it to the bottom layer.
Caramel custard: I use homemade caramel sauce for custard. You can also buy this. It is far easy to replace the toffee element. And it works well.
Bananas: Banana is the key ingredient of this pie. Use good quality ripe bananas for this recipe.
Whipped cream: For the topping, use whipped cream and some chocolate shavings. You can add your favorite toppings.
Ingredients
For caramel custard
- 250 ml of milk
- 3 tablespoon caramel sauce
- 1 tablespoon corn starch
- 1 teaspoon wonder gel 30 by meron agar agar(optional)
For other layers
- Brownie crumb/cake crumb/cookie crumb
- Whipped cream
- Ripe banana (sliced)
- 2 tablespoon caramel sauce
How to make caramel custard?
Take a saucepan, add milk. Use full-fat milk. You can also use half milk and half cream for an extra creamy texture.
Add wondergel and mix well. it is totally optional. If you do not have this then just follow the next step. Wondergel gives a smooth texture to this custard.
Add caramel sauce and mix it well. Now turn on the heat and heat it for 5 to 6 minutes.
After that, take some corn flour/starch and add 1 tablespoon water.
Mix well.
Pour the corn starch mixture into the milk, stir continuously for 30 seconds on medium flame.
After that cook the custard mixture for 4 minutes.
It looks a little bit thick and custard-like consistency. Then turn off the heat and set aside to cool down.
How to assemble the layers
Take some heavy cream and whip it for the topping.
Take a serving glass or a jar. Drizzle some caramel sauce and add brownie mix.
Then add caramel custard.
After that add some caramel sauce and sliced bananas. Then repeat the layers.
Now top it with whipped cream, some banana slices, caramel sauce, and some brownie crumb.
Place it in the refrigerator until ready to dig in. you can prepare the custard before and layer them when you want to eat. It is as simple and delicious as it looks.
