Pro tips for making shortbread cookies
- Use unsalted butter because you can adjust the salt in your cookie. If it is not available then go with the salted butter. If you are using salted butter then do not add extra salt. Always use room temperature butter, it is easy to whisk.
- You can add your favorite flavors, do some experiments with your favorite flavor combos. I used chocolate, orange because I love these flavors most.
- You can make the dough in advance and keep it in the fridge for a week. Make sure to wrap well with a plastic bag or with anything wrapper. You can also freeze the dough for a month.
- In the oven, back it to 350F for 10 to 15 minutes. If you want a more crisp texture then back it for more. Or, on the gas stove, bake the cookies for 25 to 30 minutes on low flame. And, do not worry about the outcome, it would be great because I tried it so many times. It never fails.

- 10 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 190 grams flour
- 2 tablespoon corn starch(optional)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 65 to 70 grams of powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
- A drop of orange food color(optional)

Preparation for cookie dough
Take a large bowl, add unsalted butter.
First, whisk it for 2 minutes with hand whisker.
Then, add powdered sugar into it and again whisk it for 4 to 5 minutes. You can also make your own powdered sugar. Take some granulated sugar and blend it in fine powder. It is ready to use.

Now in separate bowl, sift the flour and corn starch.
Add salt.
Mix the flour with butter mixture.

Now divide the dough into two equal sections.Add cocoa in 1 portion and mix well with your hand.
Dust some flour on the surface and knead the dough well with your hands in the smooth crack-free dough. You can also leave it simple if you do not want to add any flavor.
Now add orange zest into other portion and mix well.
After that, shape the cookie dough into a rectangular prism or like a small brick. Cover it with plastic wrap. Keep it in the freezer for 25 minutes.
When the dough is firm then take a sharp knife and cut the dough into half to 1-inch pieces. Like this.
How to bake cookies
Now, take a sheet or plate. Place the cookie dough over baking paper. And make some dots with a fork or toothpick. Place it in the oven at 350F for 10 to 15 minutes. Or in a gas stove, take a large heavy bottom pan. Add salt or sand to the bottom. Place a wire rack or any plate. Preheat for 5 minutes on medium flame. Then place the cookie plate in it and cover it with the lead for 25 to 30 minutes on low flame.
After that, you can check it by pressing your figure on it. If you feel the dense and firm texture then it is ready to take out from the heat. Bake all the cookies like this and leave them to cool down completely.
