There are many cake recipes available online, but this one is my favorite chocolate cake recipe. I love my cake super moist and light in texture. That’s why I use the chiffon method to make my cake, but this is totally optional. Once you try this cake you will love this.
Here, I also describe how you can make this recipe a one-bowl recipe. So you do not need any electric mixture. It was great when you thought the cake was so good while eating its last bite as you thought it was just the first bite. And you want to eat more. For making this recipe in one bowl, you need a whisk and a bowl. And I am sure it comes out great.
What is the chocolate cake?
The ultimate chocolate cake is full of rich chocolate flavor. Basically, the main ingredient to make the cake is flour, sugar, butter, oil, eggs. But you can mix and match the flavor, what I did here. I use some fresh orange zest because chocolate and orange go well. So what I think is that there is no rule to measure the chocolate. You can add as much chocolate as you want. In this chocolate cake recipe, we use eggs, flour, sugar, cocoa powder, oil, milk, baking powder, salt, espresso powder. And yes it is also oven friendly. You can make this chocolate cake without an oven. And it is a fully proven method, so the result is delicious. If you do not have an oven then defiantly try this method.
Ingredients and substitutes for best chocolate cake
Gluten-free cake
If you want to make a gluten-free cake then you can use almond flour or gluten-free flour instead of all-purpose flour. This recipe is so versatile that you can change the ingredients which are written down in the list.
Dairy free cake
Use almond milk, coconut milk or buttermilk in place of regular milk. It also works well.
Egg free cake recipe
If you want vegan cake then replace the eggs with some condensed milk or with butter. Use either butter or flavorless refined oil.

INGREDIENTS
- 4 egg yolks and whites separated
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 70 grams all-purpose flour
- 30 grams of cocoa powder
- 65 grams of powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- A pinch of orange(optional)
- 10 ml of oil
- 15 to 20 ml of milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla essence
Frosting for cake
- 150 ml of heavy cream
- Sugar as needed
- 30 grams melted chocolate
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Step by step method
Take a pan, add flour. Want to make gluten-free then use almond flour.
Add cocoa powder.
Add salt. Salt always enhance the flavor of cake. Do not forget to add.
Add baking powder.
Shift all the dry ingredients and mix well.
Now separate the egg whites and yolk. If you want to make one bowl cake then take a bowl and add eggs and sugar, whisk for 3 to 4 minutes then add oil, milk, vanilla, and mix for more 3 minutes then add all dry ingredients and mix well with a light hand and that’s it. Your cake batter is ready to bake. The batter needs to be in pouring consistency. Here, your one bowl method. Now follow for detailed method.
In egg yolks, add 20 grams of sugar with yolks, vanilla extract. Mix well.
Add some orange zest for the fresh orange flavor. But it is totally optional you can ignore it or use coffee powder instead of orange.
Then add oil.
Then add milk and mix well.
Then add flour mixture in batches and mix it. And make a smooth lump free batter.
Keep aside for further use.
Now, for whipping whites add lemon juice and sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time. And whisk with an electric whisker. It takes 10 minutes.
Whisk until the firm pick forms. Like this. Meanwhile, pre heat the oven for 5 to 50 minutes.
Then add the egg white with cake batter. Egg whites help to lighten up the cake. I love this technique.
Mix well with light hand.
How to bake the cake?
Take 2 greased cake tin. Grease the tin with baking paper or with butter.
Distribute the cake batter evenly and it is ready to bake. Bake it for 30 to 35 minutes in the oven. Or take a heavy bottom large vessel and preheat for 5 minutes on high flame and place a wire rack and bake the cake on low flame for 30 minutes.
Check the cake with a toothpick. If it comes out clean then the cake is ready. Or not then bake for more than 5 minutes. Remove it from heat and allow it to cool down.
After cooling down, cut the cakes into layers and keep them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Then whip the heavy cream and frost the cake. You can use any type of frosting. If you do not have heavy cream then melt some chocolate and pour it all over the cake. Keep it in the fridge for 1 hour.
Decorate the cake as you want. You can use some chocolate crumbs or shavings for decoration.
Your chocolate cake is ready to eat and serve. Cut into pieces and serve it.
Storing suggestion
Store the cake in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. You can also freeze the cake layer for a month. But the fresh-baked cake is always the best.
